Inspiring stories usually aren’t hard to come by. We all can recall at least one epic battle of the “powerhouse versus the underdog” and how it went down.
Normally these memories recall a lowly, seemingly insignificant team that undergoes a transformation and ends up winning a big game of some sort. However, we rarely take the time to stop and think about all the work, faith, and strength it takes to overcome such an obstacle!
This past weekend was Palm Sunday, so after church I went to my favorite local eatery called 192 Bagel Shop because who doesn’t crave a bagel on a sunny afternoon?
When I first discovered 192 Bagel Shop I got to meet one of the kindest women working there. She told me about the shop, how it had just opened, and how hard they had worked to finally get their dream up and running. It was incredible to hear the passion in her voice and how excited she was to finally have achieved her ultimate life goal.
This made me stop and think of my Cinderella-like memories: when was the last time I truly experienced something transformational in my life?
After processing simply the weight of the question, it dawned on me: other than getting engaged to the love of my life, the most recent transformational moment in my life happened just a few days ago! I recently had submitted my first piece to Ezer Magazine in the hopes that I would get a response similar to “can you change XYZ” or “it needs some work but we will partner with you to make it perfect”.
Now mind you, I am NOT the best writer out there. I am fully aware that even though I’ve had this dream since I could basically pick up a pencil, that doesn’t mean I’ve reached JK Rowling status. I know I’ve got flaws, and I’ve got them big-time.
However, this email, let me tell you, was a shock! The Editor-in-Chief Lindsay Fuce replied and with these few simple words they completely rocked my world:
“I just read your piece and I love it! I think that it is super applicable and will resonate with a lot of different people – as it did with me!
…You will be able to see this live on May 1st for the launch, so get excited to share with your friends and family!”
PEOPLE! I’M GETTING PUBLISHED!
Her response was NOTHING like I was expecting. Seriously, I haven’t been writing consistently, if at all, for the past TWELVE YEARS. If that’s not an underdog comeback story, I don’t know what is.
The woman at 192 Bagel Shop had a dream and she achieved it. And she didn’t just do it mediocrely ; she truly opened the best bagel shop in Melbourne! You can check out her shop here. Side note, her Asiago bagel is by far my favorite!
So friends, be encouraged this week! As our guest pastor this past weekend on Palm Sunday said, “there may be something God is doing in your life that you don’t even see as significant. But trust Him; it will be something amazing.”
“Then he told them, ‘Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.’ They did so, and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside and said, ‘Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.’ What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him.” ~ John 2:8-11 (NIV) ~
