Treasure-Maker: Giving Everything to God

Handing over all my situations and self-created, mind-conceived scenarios about life is tough, and I’m 100% confident we can all agree with that.

When I hear someone say it’s okay, just give it over to God, I’ll admit I get angry sometimes. I’d be lying if I said it’s easy for me to trust the Lord’s plan and that He creates beautiful things out of nothing.

This week I have been praying and thinking a lot about what I really want out of life. Conversation after conversation revolves around careers, children, plans for the future, and travel in our household. However, every time I take a step back, I always think is all this in vain? What’s the point of getting excited about something I have no control over?

Friends, don’t we all find ourselves worrying over something completely outside our bubble of reach? Why do we do this? Can’t we easily see how good of a God we serve when we look back, even within the past few years, and see what amazing things He’s worked out for us? So why do we catch ourselves continually falling into the same trap?

The chorus from the song Gold by Apollo LTD goes like this:

All of the things I’ve been through
You put ’em in the rear view
Everything that you hold
You make it shine like gold
You hold the doors wide open
There’s nothing your love leaves broken
Everything that you hold
You make it shine like gold
You make it shine like gold

Imagine if we lived a life viewing God’s strength and power as this: everything He holds gets turned into something unfathomably valuable.

Wouldn’t we then begin to understand how pleasing and natural it might be to hand over something to Him that otherwise we would turn into filthy rags the moment we touch it?

If there is something in your life you’re struggling to let go of, I encourage you to write the entire chorus of this song on a piece of paper and hang it somewhere you’ll see it often. Tape it on your wall next to your bed. Paste it up on your mirror when you’re getting ready in the morning. Use it as a bookmark when you’re studying for that dreaded exam coming up. No matter where you go, try to remember there’s nothing God’s love leaves broken.

Friends, I know it’s hard; trust me, I’m wrestling (or have wrestled) with the same things. Share what you’re going through with someone you trust. Pray about seeing God as miraculous as He truly is: a treasure-maker.
